Seasons and Cycles

It is the first day of a new year and I am feeling invigorated. 2017 was a year of waiting for me. Waiting can seem like a passive activity but beneath the surface new seeds have been germinating. Now I am approaching the time when I will begin training at the Hesychia School of Spiritual Direction in Tucson, AZ. A new chapter is about to begin.

Here at the cusp of a new year I am reflecting upon the idea of seasons and cycles. They do not just circle around and around. They move us forward in a spiraling way so that each year and each encounter is different and new. You can’t really stand in exactly the same place in a river because the water’s current has been continually moving. You have been moving too as you grow and change from life’s experiences. The place in the river’s flow has changed and so have you.

Times of waiting can bring forth new life; tender green shoots that are ready to stretch towards light. I wish for you new discoveries, deep joy and holy adventures in this new year.
